Construction permit values fall 40% in December

The value of construction permits the City of Ottawa handed out decreased year-over-year last month despite the approval of several high-value row housing projects, municipal records show.

Companies received $80,131,877 worth of permits in December. That’s down 40 per cent from the $133,327,311 that contractors received during the same month a year ago.

The number of permits increased slightly to 388 from 387.

The most valuable standalone projects were a fit-up at the Ottawa Hospital’s general campus and additions to car dealerships on Carling Avenue and Ogilvie Road.

Those went along with several multimillion-dollar rowhouse projects from Minto, Valecraft and Claridge.
