The overall value of local construction permits increased by 7.6 per cent year-over-year in June, even though the number of permits was down by 13.4 per cent, according to municipal records.
The city issued 848 permits with a combined value of $196.5 million last month, compared to 979 with a total value of $182.6 million a year earlier.
Heavily contributing to the overall value were three permits granted for construction of the Communications Security Establishment Canada’s Long-Term Accommodation Plan on Ogilvie Road, together valued at $39.2 million. The project will be completed by a consortium led by Plenary Properties Ltd. and PCL Constructors Canada Inc. and is expected to create 4,000 to 5,000 jobs in the Ottawa area, according to CSEC’s website.
