The anticipation of winter travel delays and disruptions is leading numerous Ottawa offices and post-secondary institutions to pre-emptively shut down Wednesday, with other employers advising workers stay home if possible to avoid the coming storm.

The University of Ottawa, Algonquin College and Carleton University have all cancelled classes for a 24-hour period beginning Tuesday evening. The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board and its French and Catholic counterparts have all announced plans to close down Wednesday.
Recreation centres and cultural hubs such as the Ottawa Art Gallery are also closing down Wednesday morning until noon.
This week’s city council meeting was also cancelled, with Mayor Jim Watson asking employers to keep their workers at home and off the roads while crews work to clean up the expected snowfall.
Events, such as Tuesday night’s 100 Men Who Care Ottawa event at the Prescott, have also been cancelled or postponed throughout the region.
