Rideau Transit Group says it’s finished its work on Ottawa’s light-rail transit system and is ready to enter the final hurdle of testing.
OC Transpo head John Manconi sent a memo to Ottawa councillors Monday evening stating that RTG has submitted for “substantial completion,” the point at which work on the LRT stations, track and trains is fully done. Now, the city and an independent certifier will each have five days to tell RTG whether they’re satisfied with the level of completion and are willing to sign off on the light-rail system.
This is the second time the LRT builder has applied for substantial completion. When RTG gave its notice back in May, both the city and the independent certifier sent the consortium of contractors back to work.

Manconi said at an update to council earlier this month that this time, he expects both the city and the third-party certifier to sign off on the system.
If RTG gets the green light from both parties, it can begin the 12 days of testing needed before the final handover of the LRT system. Should this trial proceed without a major hitch, RTG will be able to meet is previously announced handover date of Aug. 16 with Ottawa riders expected to be able to use the LRT roughly four weeks later.
