Ottawa cleantech company BluMetric Environmental announced Friday it has secured two government contracts worth $3.45 million.
Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada will pay the company $1.7 million to assess various sites in the Arctic and develop plans to protect the environment in those areas. That work will begin as soon as possible.
The Department of National Defence has granted BluMetric (TSX-V: BLM) a one-year, $1.75-million extension on a deal to provide repair and service support for the Royal Canadian Navy’s Shipboard Reverse Osmosis Desalination systems.

The contract was originally worth $6.9 million over three years, with the possibility of two extensions. Friday’s announcement marked the first extension, bringing the overall value of the contract to $8.65 million.
“The demanding conditions experienced both in the High Arctic and on Canada’s frigates and submarines, and the rigorous environmental standards required, demand precisely the kinds of solutions for which BluMetric is best known, playing to BluMetric’s strengths,” senior vice-president, business development and growth Jim Hotchkies said in a statement.
