The consortium building the east and west extensions to Ottawa’s light-rail line has subcontracted a Mississauga-based company to construct several of the stations and related facilities along LRT’s second stage.
East West Connectors, a joint venture of France’s Vinci and Nebraska-based Kiewit, will turn to Bird Construction to build seven of the 16 stations along the second phase of the Confederation Line. It will also be tasked with building a light maintenance and storage facility near Moodie Station, which will first have capacity for 24 vehicles with room for 90 trains after a potential expansion.
Back in March, the city awarded East West Connectors a $2.57-billion contract to extend the LRT line with 11 new stations to the west and five to the east. Preparatory work on the phase two stations is now underway.
