The Ottawa International Airport is partnering with local e-commerce heavyweight Shopify on a two-day initiative to motivate its visitors to become entrepreneurs.

Dubbed Shopifly, the event at the airport features nine Canadian Shopify merchants, who set up a pop-up shop to entice travellers to buy their products.

ā€œShopify employees are frequent visitors of the airport and it’s a pleasure to participate in one of their hack days projects, while bringing some attention to the merchants using their platform,ā€ airport president and CEO Mark Laroche said in a statement. ā€œIt’s also fun for our passengers to explore something new and different when they’re travelling through YOW.ā€

The pop-up on level three in departures is ā€œtruly unique,ā€ according to Shopify COO Harley Finkelstein.

ā€œOur goal is to inspire thousands of daily travellers to quit their day jobs and go live their dreams by starting a business,ā€ Mr. Finkelstein said in a statement. ā€œWe’ll be featuring products from Canadian Shopify merchants to show that it can be done.ā€

Shopifly started Thursday at 4:30 a.m. and will run until 10 p.m. Friday night.
