Ottawa airport hosts Shopifly

The Ottawa International Airport is partnering with local e-commerce heavyweight Shopify on a two-day initiative to motivate its visitors to become entrepreneurs.

Dubbed Shopifly, the event at the airport features nine Canadian Shopify merchants, who set up a pop-up shop to entice travellers to buy their products.

“Shopify employees are frequent visitors of the airport and it’s a pleasure to participate in one of their hack days projects, while bringing some attention to the merchants using their platform,” airport president and CEO Mark Laroche said in a statement. “It’s also fun for our passengers to explore something new and different when they’re travelling through YOW.”

The pop-up on level three in departures is “truly unique,” according to Shopify COO Harley Finkelstein.

“Our goal is to inspire thousands of daily travellers to quit their day jobs and go live their dreams by starting a business,” Mr. Finkelstein said in a statement. “We’ll be featuring products from Canadian Shopify merchants to show that it can be done.”

Shopifly started Thursday at 4:30 a.m. and will run until 10 p.m. Friday night.
