CMC Microsystems is expanding its role in the Ottawa community with a new facility in Kanata North.
The not-for-profit company, which focuses on the research and development of nanotechnologies, said this week that it is leasing 2,500 square feet of space at 400 March Rd.
The Kanata office will support CMC’s R&D team and specifically work on developing the organization’s CAD software (CAD) as well as fabrication services for microelectronics, silicon photonics and mechanical sensors.

The new facility will also feature a fully equipped R&D laboratory as well as offices that will be used for training purposes.
Several CMC staff have moved into the space, which is hoped to eventually be home to more than 20 employees, CMC president Gord Harling said in a statement.
While this is the first physical facility for the company in the capital, CMC is no stranger to the city. Kingston-based CMC operated a satellite office at the National Research Council on Montreal Road, allowing it to work closely with Carleton University and the University of Ottawa, supplying funding towards the research and development of microelectronics and other technologies.
CMC Microsystems has partnered with thousands of researchers and companies in Canada through its National Design Network, which assists those in the microsystem and nanotechnologies space by providing them access to the tools they need to design, prototype and manufacture their innovations.
