Global commerce giant Amazon has been named in a media report as the tenant slated to occupy a huge new warehouse planned for southeast Ottawa.
OBJ first reported this month that the proposed one-million-square-foot facility at Boundary Road and Highway 417 would be the largest warehouse in the National Capital Region and was designed to accommodate up to 1,000 employees.
In an earlier interview, developer Broccolini said the project could cost up to $200 million and said the company did not yet have a confirmed tenant.

CTV Ottawa, citing unnamed sources, reported Thursday that Amazon would occupy the space and use it as a distribution centre.
When OBJ contacted Amazon in April, the firm said it “is not yet commenting on any specific plans in Ottawa.”
Municipal lobbying records show officials from Amazon Canada Fulfillment Services met with Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson and Stephen Willis, the city’s general manager of planning, infrastructure and economic development, in January.
Real estate experts say the new warehouse could kick off a wave of new commercial development around the new warehouse.
