The city’s planning committee gave the go-ahead Thursday to a development that will see two buildings with a total of 139 apartment units constructed in Kanata’s Beaverbrook neighbourhood.
The numbered company that owns the properties at 1131 and 1151 Teron Rd. near the corner of March Road says its plans call for a nine-storey apartment building with commercial space on the ground floor as well as a three-storey building with 30 residential suites.
The lands will be developed in two phases, with the smaller building and a temporary surface parking lot being constructed first at 1131 Teron Rd. An existing one-storey dwelling on the property will be torn down to make way for the new apartments.

The nine-storey mixed-use building will be constructed next door at 1151 Teron Rd. in phase two. It will include 109 apartments and almost 10,000 square feet of commercial space.
An underground parking lot with space for 46 vehicles will be built in the second phase along with a surface parking lot between the nine-storey building and March Road. In total, there will be 229 parking spaces, including 36 outdoor spots reserved for residents of the three-storey building.
The developer had requested rezoning amendments to permit commercial uses at 1151 Teron Rd. as well as minor changes in setbacks and the building envelope.
