The Kanata North Business Association is calling on its thousands of tech park employees to support the restaurants and retailers in the surrounding area that have been significantly disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The KNBA, which provides marketing and support services to businesses in the Kanata North tech park, launched its #ShopLocal campaign Thursday. The initiative, powered by a Shopify e-commerce site, will allow patrons to purchase “Tech Park dollars” from the association for use at specific local businesses after the impact of the pandemic has subsided.
The tech park dollars will be similar to gift cards – think of them as immediate short-term revenue boosts – to the cafes, restaurants, hospitality businesses and other retailers in the area that have been forced to close or reduce their hours to stem the spread of the novel coronavirus. KNBA will process the payments and ensure all funds are transferred to the appropriate businesses.
