The city’s planning committee has endorsed plans for a 166-unit rental apartment at the corner of Richmond Road and Woodroffe Avenue, steps from a planned light-rail station.

The site has seen several proposals – each progressively taller – over the past decade.

In 2015, the project proponent, Westboro Point Developments, received site plan approval for a 14-storey building. After initially marketing it as a condo, the property owner shifted gears and returned to City Hall with plans for a residential rental apartment building with ground-floor commercial units.

The project has the support of the city councillor for the area, Mark Taylor, but was opposed by the majority of the 25 residents who submitted written comments during the application review process, according to a city staff report. Many of the comments expressed disapproval of the height and density of the proposed building as well as concerns about parking and traffic.

The proposal now goes to full city council for approval.
