The federal government is inviting three teams of architects, financiers and contractors to formally submit bids to construct a new archival facility that’s expected to remain standing for the next 500 years.
Earlier this week, Public Services and Procurement Canada released the names of the companies it’s prequalified to move onto the next stage of the P3 procurement process.

The successful team will be tasked with building the 128,300-square-foot facility and then operating and maintaining it for 30 years.
The three consortiums will now be invited to respond to a request for proposals. Technical proposals are due Oct. 2, while financial proposals are due Dec. 7. Government officials have said they’d like the facility completed by 2021.
Serge Corbeil, director general of real property for LAC, previously said the facility is designed to keep a history of government decisions and programs for centuries to come.
“It’s for preservation of government records. We are building that facility for long-term preservation, so the horizon is 500 years,” he said.
