The Government of Canada is looking to repair the roof of one of its buildings damaged in a storm last September.

The east roof of the National Defense Medical Centre on Alta Vista Drive was partially torn off by a severe storm last fall, according to a tender notice.

Constructed in the 1950s, the building originally acted as a full-service hospital for military personnel and their families. It’s currently acting as office space and as a walk-in clinic on The Ottawa Hospital’s General Campus.

Roughly a decade ago, the feds initiated an environmental review in preparation for disposing of the building to Canada Lands Company, which in turn sells land to private developers. The status of that process is unclear.

The contract for fixing the eight-year-old roof could be worth up to $250,000, and work is expected to take eight weeks.
