On Thursday, Aug. 28, OBJ issued an open invitation to all candidates in the upcoming municipal election to answer one simple question: Why should the business community vote for you?
As the responses come in, one will be published online each day, and be included in our daily email newsletter. Send your response to editor@obj.ca.
Today’s response is from Marc Aubin, running in the Rideau-Vanier ward.

Marc Aubin is a candidate for city councillor in Rideau-Vanier, Ward 12. The Aubin family has been investing in Ottawa for five generations.
Marc Aubin’s grandfather had a law practice, Lafleur & Aubin, for sixty years at Rideau and Sussex.
Aubin’s great cousin owned a corner store, chip wagon and restaurant on Sussex Drive.
Aubin has a degree in business from the University of Ottawa and has worked in both the private and public sectors.
He believes in balanced budgets, but he also believes that you need to continually reinvest in a business – and a city – to be successful.
As a candidate for Rideau-Vanier, Marc Aubin wants to see significant reinvestment in the Byward Market, one of the City’s prime tourism draws.
He also wants to see reinvestment in the downtown’s mainstreets. Aubin wants to see the development of a business association representing the interests of Laurier Avenue East and Rideau Street East (Uptown Rideau).
He wants less tax payer dollars spent on feeding the City’s sprawl and more on making the City of Ottawa a destination for tourists and residents. Aubin’s values and policies follow from this belief.
