In 2004-05, an average of 9,231 people attended Ottawa 67’s games at the old Civic Centre.
Ten years later, the Ontario Hockey League club is averaging just 3,861 fans at the revamped TD Place arena so far this season. Now its owner, the Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group, is taking action.
OSEG announced late Wednesday it will slash ticket prices by $4. Also, a new half-hour parking rate of $1.50 is now in place, meaning the cost of parking for a typical game would drop from about $15 to $9. The lower rate will be in effect seven days a week except for events when more than 15,000 people are expected.
“You talked, we listened,” OSEG Sports president Jeff Hunt said in a statement.
More products will also be introduced for under $5 at the concession stands starting in January.
“We think these measures will encourage the general public to visit Lansdowne and the 67’s more often,” Mr. Hunt said, adding the new parking rates are lower than the Canadian Hockey League average.
