The University of Ottawa expects to have its new sports stadium in place by Nov. 15, just in time for its teams to use a dome on campus for the winter.
Tofcon Construction Inc. submitted the winning bid for $6.42 million, coming in about $180,000 lower than its closest competitor.
The completion date was pushed back from an initial estimate of mid-August amid a complex set of requirements for Tofcon.

The company demolished one-quarter of a 60,000-square-foot building on the site in such a way that allowed classes and research in other parts of the building to continue.
Additionally, Tofcon is building stadium bleachers and other infrastructure for the sports surface. The stands will go up soon, the foundation is almost done, and the lighting is already set up near the field, said Claudio Brun del Re, the University of Ottawa’s director of physical resources services.
For the university, this second sports stadium is expected to position it more competitively against other universities as many have several sports surfaces for teams, said Sylvio Miron, the project manager as well as the university’s facility planner, in an interview with OBJ in January.
“There’s a lack of sports surfaces (on campus). Usually a university has around seven to eight sports surfaces,” he said.
It will be especially useful to the Gee-Gees football team, who can use the domed surface rather than driving 14 kilometres away to a facility near École secondaire Publique Louis-Riel, he said.
The university combined both the demolition and construction aspects of the contract and received eight bids for the work, according to records provided to OBJ.
