Several developers received the green light from city officials to launch townhouse and low-rise residential projects, but a lack of new large-scale initiatives weighed down construction intentions last month.
The city awarded 706 building permits in April, up slightly from 694 a year earlier. However, the total value of those projects declined 15.42 per cent to $173.08 million.
The largest project to gain city approval was a partial permit to Claridge Homes to construct the structure of its new 17-storey hotel on the site of the former Union of Canada office building on Dalhousie Street in the ByWard Market.
