Shopify has officially opened its second office in Toronto, the latest installment in a still-growing presence in Ontario’s capital.
The new space at 420 Wellington St. holds more than 160 employees, with a capacity of 218. Shopify’s original TO digs at 80 Spadina St. has a capacity of 280.
Both Toronto locations pale in comparison to the company’s coming space in the King Portland Centre, which is under construction. Shopify will be the anchor tenant of the space at 620 King St. W., which will top out at 1,200 employees. The project is slated for completion in two years.

Mayor Tory followed that up with a tweet calling Shopify a “Toronto success story,” which drew the ire of Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson.
@harleyf @berryonline @JohnTory @Shopify just to clarify – it’s an OTTAWA success story!! Glad to share it with my two colleagues’ cities!

To defuse the social media throw-down, Shopify chief product officer Craig Miller suggested a national compromise on ownership of the company’s success.
@JimWatsonOttawa @harleyf @JustinTrudeau @berryonline @JohnTory @Shopify let’s all agree it’s a *Canadian* success story

Chief operating officer Harley Finkelstein then tweeted a heart. So I think we’re good.
(But we agree with Big Jim).
