On par with purpose: 2025 Ottawa Tech Open scores big for junior achievement

Sold-out tournament has become a movement to drive meaningful impact in the local technology community – and beyond

The Ottawa Tech Open returned to the greens this summer for its highly anticipated second year, uniting startup founders, entrepreneurs, investors, and members of the city’s vibrant tech ecosystem, all in support of a great cause.

Held June 17 at The Marshes Golf Club in Kanata, the sold-out tournament successfully raised $45,000 in support of JA Ottawa, a learning program delivered by the Ottawa Network for Education (ONFE).

Drawing dozens of teams from Ottawa’s tech community

Building on the momentum of its successful inaugural year, the event drew dozens of teams from Ottawa’s innovation community for an afternoon of golf, followed by an engaging networking event that welcomed even more members of the local business community.

“We are so proud of the success this event has garnered over the past two years,” said Julia Slanina, founder & CEO of Treehouse and the event’s visionary and co-chair. “To be able to bring together the tech community for such a good cause has always been our ultimate goal.”

The event was born out of a desire to reimagine traditional networking opportunities in the city’s tech ecosystem. By combining sport, connection, and community impact, the Ottawa Tech Open creates a dynamic space for both new and familiar faces to connect on and off the course.

“It’s been great to watch the support for this tournament grow,” added Josh Raganold, the event’s co-chair. “It’s clear that our attendees, sponsors and volunteers all have a vested interest in helping the youth of Ottawa flourish.”

Wesley Clover Foundation and others play key sponsorship roles

The Wesley Clover Foundation returned as the event’s major sponsor, joined by Scotiabank’s Roynat Capital, with both playing key roles supporting the day of golf and the following networking event. The networking portion featured creative ways for attendees to interact and spark new ideas. Numerous local sponsors, both returning and new, helped make the day a great success.

Proceeds from the day of golf will go directly toward empowering youth with the skills and confidence to succeed through Ottawa’s JA program. The support from the team at the Ottawa Network for Education (ONFE), led by Mitch Miller, was once again invaluable in ensuring the success of the second annual tournament.

With a strong showing and growing interest from Ottawa’s tech sector, the Ottawa Tech Open has quickly cemented itself as more than just a golf tournament – it’s a movement to drive meaningful impact in the local tech community and beyond.
