Ottawa is home to hundreds of regional and national associations. Together, these organizations form a vital part of the local economy, facing unique challenges and the opportunity to positively affect stakeholders.

The OTUS Group and Ottawa Business Journal, with the support of 10 of the city’s leading professional service providers including Gowling WLG and Hendry Warren LLP, are launching a unique new local initiative. The Ottawa Association Exchange, or OAX, is a valuable new multimedia resource that aims to provide association executives with the latest information on best practices and comparative data.

The goal is to engage decision-makers from leading associations based in the National Capital Region to understand some of their key operational issues and provide relevant information to help them increase their effectiveness.

OAX will begin with an in-depth survey of association executives, conducted by Abacus Data. The survey will explore the state of the association sector and the common challenges facing these organizations, including financial reporting, outsourcing, executive compensation and more.

“Associations can tell the story of what’s happening in their sector and then see where they fit in among their peers,” says OTUS Group CEO Francis Liska.

The survey results will be tabulated and analyzed in a new multimedia publication that will be unveiled at an educational and networking event in early 2019. This initiative will allow association executives to apply best practices from within their industry to enhance their operations.

Understanding how your peers and competitors approach common business problems can be vital to informing the operational decisions of not-for-profit organization. OAX provides a unique opportunity for associations to improve their organizational structures and governance by learning from their peers.

But to do this, we need your help.

The OTUS Group and OBJ have prepared a quick 10-minute, 30-question survey that can be accessed at http://bit.ly/OAXsurvey. If you work for an association or member-based not-for-profit, please make your voice heard. And don’t forget to share the survey link with your peers and professional network.

With your participation, we can help your sector become stronger and more sustainable to the benefit of the wider community.
