A group that includes one of Canada’s best-known international soccer players is spending more than $2.5 million to build two new regulation-sized pitches and a remodelled “authentic European clubhouse” for a soccer organization based in Ottawa’s east end.
The Maple Leaf Almrausch German Club says soccer legend Julian de Guzman – the first Canadian ever to play in Spain’s top-level La Liga and the former general manager of the Ottawa Fury – will be among the investors in the project to renovate its stadium and clubhouse at 3928 Farmers Way in Carlsbad Springs.
Members of the local business and soccer communities are also pitching in to help revitalize the 50-year-old Maple Leaf club’s facilities. ASL Contractors will be leading the redevelopment effort.
The multimillion-dollar makeover will see a FIFA-sized artificial turf pitch as well as a new grass field installed at the site. New lights will be added, while the clubhouse will be renovated and parking areas will be upgraded.
“Having a world-class FIFA-sized artificial turf field, a FIFA-sized grass field and an authentic European clubhouse will provide soccer players and supporters an experience that is second to none in our community,” the organization said in a statement.
