Building stronger associations in Ottawa

Despite forming a sizable and indispensable part of Ottawa’s economy, many of the common challenges facing the city’s associations are not widely understood.

What new revenue sources are associations exploring? How should executives recruit and engage members? And what are the emerging best practices in board governance?

To answer these and other questions, the OTUS Group and Ottawa Business Journal – with the support of 10 of the city’s leading professional service providers including Gowling WLG and Hendry Warren LLP – recently launched the inaugural edition of OAX: The Ottawa Association Exchange.

More than 110 international, national and regional associations were surveyed by Abacus Data on a range of topics, including growth strategies, financial management, HR and member recruitment.

The results are tabulated and analyzed in a report that also contains expert insights and commentary from more than a dozen leading association executives and industry experts.

“Our aim is to help you better understand how your association compares against others,” says OTUS Group president Richard MacNeill. “The OAX project will provide insight into what makes associations achieve operational excellence and stand out above the crowd.”
