Rick Leary will share his perspective on the current state of transit\, his early priorities for the system\, and the role transit plays in supporting Ottawa’s growth and connectivity. \nRick Leary is the General Manager of OC Transpo at the City of Ottawa and brings more than 25 years of experience leading transit systems across major North America. He began his career 42 years ago as a unionized transit operator with the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA). He then progressed through senior leadership roles at the MBTA in Boston and York Region Transit in the Greater Toronto Area. Most recently\, Rick served as Chief Executive Officer of the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) from 2017 to 2024. \nThroughout his career\, Rick has led large\, integrated bus\, light rail and subway networks\, with responsibility for operations\, maintenance\, safety\, and long-term asset management. His leadership focuses on service reliability\, improving customer experience\, and using performance data to align day-to-day operations with long-term investment priorities. Join us and stay informed on key issues impacting the prosperity of our city and get connected with Ottawa’s business community. \nAgenda:\n7:00 a.m. – Networking and Breakfast\n8:00 a.m. – Update from City Hall + Fireside Chat\n9:00 a.m. – Event Conclusion \nSpecial Guest: Chief Eric Stubbs\, Ottawa Chief of Police \nChief Eric Stubbs joined the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) in November 2022. \nHe began his policing career in 1993 with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and worked in six different communities in British Columbia\, including serving as Chief of Police on the Haida Gwaii\, Terrace\, and Prince George. \nIn 2014\, Chief Stubbs moved to RCMP headquarters in Ottawa to serve as the Director General of National Criminal Operations. In 2017\, he returned to B.C. to oversee Core Criminal Operations\, where he was responsible for leadership and operations of 125 frontline policing detachments and a number of specialized branches throughout the province. \nIn his role as Chief of Police in Ottawa\, he wants to ensure the team at the Ottawa Police Service is supported and healthy so they can continue to address all the policing issues in the City. \nEarning the trust of all the diverse communities within the National Capital Region is a priority for the Chief\, and he realizes that collaboration with these groups and all stakeholders is essential in keeping the Capital of Canada a safe community.

Join us and stay informed on key issues impacting the prosperity of our city and get connected with Ottawa’s business community. \nAgenda:\n7:00 a.m. – Networking and Breakfast\n8:00 a.m. – Update from City Hall + Fireside Chat\n9:00 a.m. – Event Conclusion \nSpecial Guest: General (Ret’d) Rick Hillier\, Honourary Chair of the National Defence Innovation Hub Task Force for Canada’s Capital Region \nGeneral (Retired) Rick Hillier was born in Newfoundland and joined the Canadian Armed Forces as soon as he could. Throughout his career he has had the privilege of commanding troops from Platoon to Multinational Formation in Canada\, the United States\, Europe\, and Asia\, in peace and in war. He assumed duties as Chief of Defence Staff in February 2005 and retired July 2008. \nAs noted by the Globe and Mail\, “[General] Rick Hillier’s rise through the ranks of the Canadian Armed Forces can be linked to a gale force wind. Few individuals in our history have been as single-handedly accomplished at recrafting the nation’s image”. \nHillier’s leadership was crucial to restoring servicemen and women to a place of pride in Canada and to re-equipping and rebuilding the Canadian Armed Forces with the largest and most rapid military procurement programs in our nation’s history\, including the C17\, C130)\, Chinook helicopters and Leopard II tanks among others. \nSince retirement from the Military in 2008\, General Hillier has written several books\, Including the bestseller “Leadership Matters”\, using his unprecedented experience to help leaders in all arenas navigate through tough economic times and rethink their roles and impacts. He has advised clients such as the French firm DCNS on how to compete for the Canadian Patrol Frigate programme\, TELUS on how to rectify their challenges with a Defence Communications contract and many other companies who are mystified and challenged by the complexity of the government procurement process in Canada. In addition\, he has advised some of the country’s top companies such as Exxon Mobil\, Rogers\, TD Bank\, Tim Hortons\, PACEM Defence and many others on how to better lead in their industry niche. \nGeneral (Retired) Hillier remains busy in his post military life\, resides in Ottawa with his wife Joyce and enjoys helping Canada in every way possible.
