Carleton University and College La Cité have announced the appointment of new presidents.
Wisdom Tettey will join Carleton University as president and vice-chancellor, the university said this week. Tettey joins Carleton from the University of Toronto, where he currently serves as a vice-president and principal of the Scarborough campus since 2018.
Tettey has experience implementing strategic and operations plans at major Canadian universities. Tettey was dean of the Irving K. Barber School of Arts and Sciences and the Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies, both at the Okanagan campus of the University of British Columbia, and interim dean of the Faculty of Communication and Culture at the University of Calgary. He began his academic career at Queen’s University.

At the national level, Tettey has convened the National Dialogues and Action for Inclusive Higher Education and Communities since 2020. The forum currently represents about 60 Canadian universities and colleges, including Carleton.
Internationally, Dr. Tettey has served as a consultant and adviser to various global organizations, including the World Bank, the United Nations Development Programme, the Africa Capacity Building Foundation, and the International Association of Universities. He is an elected fellow of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences and currently serves on the board of CivicAction and on the advisory and editorial boards of various academic publications.
Tettey succeeds Jerry Tomberlin, who was appointed Carleton’s interim president and vice-chancellor in September 2023.

“Dr. Tettey is an inclusive and authentic leader who will build on the university’s reputation for teaching, learning and research excellence,” said Greg Farrell, chair of Carleton’s board of governors. “He impressed the advisory committee with an ambitious vision of Carleton as a top-tier university on both a national and international scale.
“We were absolutely inspired by his goal of fostering a bold community of conscientious and adaptable global leaders who challenge the status quo and champion transformative change.”
Also announced this week, College La Cité has appointed Lynn Casimiro as president and CEO.
With 17 years’ experience in senior management positions, Casimiro’s career includes being executive director of the Academic Health Council at the University of Ottawa, director of education at the Institut du Savoir Montfort, and researcher at the Institut de recherche of Montfort Hospital. She has been vice-president, academic and student success at Collège La Cité since 2016. Born in Ottawa with a PhD in education from the University of Ottawa, Casimiro is a proud Franco-Ontarian.
“I am eager to put all my expertise and passion to work to ensure the continued success of the student community, serve the Franco-Ontarian community and meet the needs of employers,” said Casimiro in a news release. “In my view, La Cité has always been a pillar of the Franco-Ontarian community and of the francophone Canadian college system.”
Casimiro will begin her term on July 1, 2024 following the retirement of Lise Bourgeois.
“We are confident that we have chosen the right leader to take over Collège La Cité. I am convinced that Lynn has all the skills needed to lead the college to new heights, building on the work accomplished by her predecessor, Lise Bourgeois,” said Lise Cloutier, chair of La Cité’s board of governors.
