In 2017\, he returned to B.C. to oversee Core Criminal Operations\, where he was responsible for leadership and operations of 125 frontline policing detachments and a number of specialized branches throughout the province. \nIn his role as Chief of Police in Ottawa\, he wants to ensure the team at the Ottawa Police Service is supported and healthy so they can continue to address all the policing issues in the City. \nEarning the trust of all the diverse communities within the National Capital Region is a priority for the Chief\, and he realizes that collaboration with these groups and all stakeholders is essential in keeping the Capital of Canada a safe community.

Throughout his career he has had the privilege of commanding troops from Platoon to Multinational Formation in Canada\, the United States\, Europe\, and Asia\, in peace and in war. He assumed duties as Chief of Defence Staff in February 2005 and retired July 2008. \nAs noted by the Globe and Mail\, “[General] Rick Hillier’s rise through the ranks of the Canadian Armed Forces can be linked to a gale force wind. Few individuals in our history have been as single-handedly accomplished at recrafting the nation’s image”. \nHillier’s leadership was crucial to restoring servicemen and women to a place of pride in Canada and to re-equipping and rebuilding the Canadian Armed Forces with the largest and most rapid military procurement programs in our nation’s history\, including the C17\, C130)\, Chinook helicopters and Leopard II tanks among others. \nSince retirement from the Military in 2008\, General Hillier has written several books\, Including the bestseller “Leadership Matters”\, using his unprecedented experience to help leaders in all arenas navigate through tough economic times and rethink their roles and impacts. He has advised clients such as the French firm DCNS on how to compete for the Canadian Patrol Frigate programme\, TELUS on how to rectify their challenges with a Defence Communications contract and many other companies who are mystified and challenged by the complexity of the government procurement process in Canada. In addition\, he has advised some of the country’s top companies such as Exxon Mobil\, Rogers\, TD Bank\, Tim Hortons\, PACEM Defence and many others on how to better lead in their industry niche. \nGeneral (Retired) Hillier remains busy in his post military life\, resides in Ottawa with his wife Joyce and enjoys helping Canada in every way possible.

DESCRIPTION:Since 2021\, the Government of Ontario has passed several iterations of its Working for Workers legislation\, each of which has amended important employment-related statutes like the Employment Standards Act (ESA) and the Occupational Health and Safety Act. \nNotably\, the Working for Workers Four Act\, 2024 and the Working for Workers Five Act\, 2024 both created new legal requirements under the ESA in respect of the recruitment process. Carignan\, Chief of the Defence Staff \nA graduate of the Royal Military College of Canada in Engineering\, General Jennie Carignan was commissioned into the Canadian Military Engineers in 1990. \nSince then\, she commanded two Combat Engineer Regiments\, Royal Military College Saint-Jean and the 2nd Canadian Division\, where she led more than 10\,000 soldiers and spearheaded crisis operations during the flood relief efforts in the spring of 2019 in Quebec. More recently\, she led NATO Mission Iraq from November 2019 to November 2020. General Carignan participated in three previous expeditionary operations in Bosnia-Herzegovina\, the Golan Heights\, and Afghanistan. From 2021 to 2024\, General Carignan was appointed Chief of Professional Conduct and Culture. \nAlong the way\, General Carignan earned a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Université Laval and a second Master’s degree from the United States Army Command and General Staff College and the School of Advanced Military Studies. She is also a graduate of the National Security Studies Programme from Canadian Forces College in Toronto and the recipient of an honorary doctorate from Huntington University. \nGeneral Carignan has been invested as Commander of the Order of Military Merit and is the recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal and the Meritorious Service Cross. She received the prestigious Gloire de l’Escolle medal which recognizes graduates from Université Laval who have distinguished themselves professionally and in service to their communities. She was recently awarded an honorary doctorate in Business Administration from Université Laval. \nGeneral Carignan was promoted to her current rank in July 2024 and appointed as Chief of the Defence Staff. \nGeneral Carignan is married and is the mother of four children\, two of whom proudly serve in the Canadian Armed Forces.
