The upgrades to the Apple Watch was not the only announcement made at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco Monday.
Ottawa e-commerce king Shopify announced this fall it will bring Apple Pay to its more than 275,000 merchants.
Apple Pay allows consumers to quickly and securely check out of e-commerce stores through Apple’s Safari browser on iPhone, iPad, and Mac with one touch.
Shopify’s director of engineering, Jason Normore, said adding Apple Pay create a more “seamless” process for Shopify merchants and their customers.
"Shopify's mission has always been to enable our merchants to offer their customers the best experience, and that’s why the announcement of Apple Pay coming to the web is so exciting,” Mr. Normore said in a statement.
It is no secret that Shopify is targeting the mobile space as its business grows. It says 60 per cent of checkouts started come from the mobile user, but only 40 per cent of these users actually complete a transaction.
Mr. Normore said adding Apple Pay is “laying the groundwork” for a better mobile experience.
