City council defers Medical Arts Building vote until Aug. 26

Somerset Coun. Catherine McKenney ultimately might not be able to prevent the redevelopment of the Medical Arts Building at 180 Metcalfe St., but she was successful Wednesday in getting council to defer its decision on the proposal until it reconvenes in late August.

Ms. McKenney’s motion to defer the decision until the next council meeting on Aug. 26 was unanimously passed on what was a busy final meeting before the summer break.

Council passed its term of council priorities and strategic initiatives as well as a motion to review the taxi bylaw.

The LRT Phase 2 plan was approved, as was a motion to look into the cost of adding public washrooms to the Bayview and Hurdman stations. Council also approved a motion to extend the western Transitway from Bayshore to Moodie Drive.

The day began with the official proclamation of Noel Buckley Day, honouring the outgoing head of Ottawa Tourism. Buckley leaves the post on July 13 to take on a the role of president and general manager of the Scotiabank Convention Centre in Niagara Falls.
