In a bid to maximize revenue per square foot and experiment with various store formats, ShinyBud Corp. (TSXV: SNYB) has opened Ottawa’s first drive-through cannabis store at the intersection of Carling Avenue and Fairlawn Avenue, near Carlingwood Shopping Centre.

“We’re pleased to have opened Eastern Ontario’s only drive-through experience, providing customers with quick and convenient access to our lineup of carefully curated and award-winning cannabis products and knowledgeable staff from the comfort of their vehicle,” said Kevin Reed, chairman and CEO, in a news release.

“From coffee to cannabis, this unique store features a small bricks-and-mortar footprint, allowing us to continue testing ideal store sizes that maximize revenue per square foot as we plan to open additional stores through our franchising program across Ontario,” Reed added.

The number of cannabis retailers in Ontario has grown since 2018, when selling the drug in retail settings became legal. Last August, the province hit a new milestone, surpassing 1,000 open, authorized cannabis retailers in Ontario. The growth has resulted in a competitive and crowded marketplace where retailers are looking to differentiate themselves.

According to the company, ShinyBud Cannabis Co. at 2200 Carling Ave. is the only cannabis drive-through experience in Ottawa and Eastern Ontario. Customers can pre-order cannabis products and consumption accessories online or directly in the drive-through by scanning the available QR code, and pick up their order from the drive-through window.

The Carling Avenue site is ShinyBud’s seventh location in the Ottawa region and increases the company’s store count to 41 corporate and licensed locations across Ontario. ShinyBud Cannabis Co. Carling is a corporate store.
