Correction: An earlier version of this story contained an incorrect spelling of David Gourlay's surname.
In a statement Thursday, Gourlay – who previously served as vice-president of public affairs at Argyle Public Relationships and later Argyle-Tact – said former Ottawa Senators president Cyril Leeder will co-chair his campaign along with Kanata community leader Beth Mlacak.
“I want to contribute my passion and energy by serving Kanata North as its councillor,” Gourley said in a statement.
Kanata North is currently held by veteran politician Marianne Wilkinson, who has represented the ward since 2001 and previously served as a pre-amalgamation councillor and mayor in the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s.
She told CFRA Thursday that she has a preferred candidate in mind whom she was planning to endorse. However, she said she’ll run again if this candidate chooses not to run.
The municipal election is scheduled for Oct. 22.
