The National Capital Commission has formally applied to demolish two buildings on Sussex Drive to make way for additional bicycle lanes.
A single-family house built in 1945 and a two-storey triplex built in 1903 planned to be removed to smooth out the curve of Sussex Drive between Bolton and Cathcart streets, according to a demolition proprosal summary published by the city.
The National Capital Commission and the city are working together to construct a four-lane road that will have bicycle lanes in both directions.
David Jeanes, a board member of Heritage Ottawa, says one of the buildings used to be occupied by former governor general Adrienne Clarkson.
"We are following this closely," Mr. Jeanes wrote in an e-mail to OBJ.
"They are in a heritage conservation district and in character with the district."
The application is expected to reach the city's planning committee Nov. 13.
