Federal government funding will help see to completion a new residence for homeless and at-risk youth in Ottawa.

On Wednesday, the feds announced a $3.12-million contribution to the Youth Services Bureau’s new four-storey, 39-unit affordable housing complex at 2887 Riverside Dr. Each unit in the new facility will have affordable rents.

First proposed in 2017 and already under construction, the $9-million project has also received $5 million in funding from the City of Ottawa, according to YSB, with the remainder raised from private donors. The federal government’s contribution comes through the National Housing Co-Investment Fund, a promise from the 2018 budget.

The Youth Services Bureau of Ottawa provides help to teens and young adults in need of housing or health support.

The Riverside Drive development is set to open its doors this coming fall.
