A Cornwall manufacturer that provided key parts for thousands of ventilators during the COVID-19 crisis is getting a $1-million funding boost from the federal government to further ramp up its production capacity.
SigmaPoint Technologies says it plans to use the loan from the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario to add to its team of 370 employees and acquire real-time analytics technology that will help eliminate bottlenecks and speed up the manufacturing process.
The company says the new technology could boost its output by as much as 50 per cent.
SigmaPoint specializes in advanced electronics and technology such as servers that enable high-speed internet service and critical monitoring equipment for nuclear power plants.
Last year, the firm partnered with Montreal-based CAE and the federal government to produce electronic components for 10,000 ventilators that were distributed to hospitals across Canada.
