Local developer Phoenix Homes is asking the city to make way for a nine-storey mixed-use building it’s proposed for Ottawa’s Chinatown.

Phoenix has asked the city to rezone what is currently a parking lot at 770 Somerset St., at Lebreton Street, for the building, which would be twice the size of what’s allowed there now.

It’s proposing a restaurant and grocery store on the ground floor with the remainder of the building used for residential space, according to documents filed with the city. The building will have a total of 75 units.

The developer is also proposing 87 parking spaces as part of three levels of underground parking it wants to put in beneath the building.

Staff are required to reach a decision on the application by April 23, according to the city documents.
