Ottawa-based Transparent Kitchen wins Capital Angel Network’s $10K pitch award

Ottawa’s Transparent Kitchen received its first bit of funding from a local source, taking home the Capital Angel Network pitch award at the organization’s most recent meeting.

True to its name, the local startup lays bare restaurants’ supply chains and chefs, and allows customers to get a hold of the same ingredients at home. It’s the sole Ottawa firm in SaaS accelerator L-Spark’s current cohort.

Transparent Kitchen receives $10,000 in immediate funding from four of CAN’s angel investors. After hearing a series of pitches at the group’s regular meetings, individual members can choose to allocate their shares, each worth $2,500. Startups need to get four investors on board to walk away with the prize – a rapid reward for a promising pitch.

The award launched last year as a supplement to the local angels’ regular activities and as an incentive for investors to get some skin in the game. Transparent Kitchen joins SnapClarity, LeadFox and Back-Bone Gear as pitch award winners.

In 2017, Capital Angel Network invested $3.3 million across 20 companies.
