Federal contracts: EllisDon wins $9M National Gallery job

National Gallery
National Gallery

The National Gallery has hired general contractor EllisDon to repair and replace parts of the main entrance and glass-enclosed ramped colonnade at the landmark tourist attraction, according to contracting records.

A procurement notice says glass components need to be replaced and the original framing modified. Additionally, the lead-coated copper roof assembly needs to be replaced.

The gallery, which cost $122 million to construct and opened in 1988, closed for two weeks in early January to prepare for the project. The National Gallery will remain open during the subsequent work, according to media reports.
