Bernie Ashe, who recently retired as CEO of the Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group, recently became a shareholder in Deslaurier Custom Cabinets alongside Cyril Leeder, James Maxwell, Tyler Leeder and Mike Deslaurier.

Two of Ottawa’s most well-known sports executives have purchased an ownership stake in a long-running local business.

Cyril Leeder, the cofounder and former president of the Ottawa Senators, and retired OSEG chief executive Bernie Ashe are among the new shareholders of Deslaurier Custom Cabinets.

Other new owners of the local firm – which was founded more than 35 years ago and targets homebuilders, remodelers and kitchen design centres – include Investment Partners Group CEO James Maxwell, accountant Tyler Leeder and Mike Deslaurier, the son of company founder Jim Deslaurier and the company’s current operations director.

While the company says Jim Deslaurier has no plans to leave the business, current president Denis Staples will be leaving the firm at the end of the year.

In his new role as executive chairman of the cabinetry design, manufacturing, installation and service firm, Ashe will mentor the management team “through this generational transition,” the company said in a statement.

The company reportedly has 180 employees across its showrooms on Baxter Room and in Renfrew, where it also operates a manufacturing facility.
