Ottawa air travellers seeking fun in the sun this winter now have more options to escape Mother Nature’s chilly grip.
Low-cost charter carrier Sunwing Airlines announced Friday morning on Twitter it was adding new direct flights from Ottawa and Toronto’s Pearson airport to Miami beginning in December.
Sunwing said flights from Ottawa to Miami will commence on Dec. 15 and run until March 30, 2019. The non-stop flights will depart Ottawa each Saturday at 6:40 a.m., with return flights from Miami leaving at noon on Saturdays. Return fares start at about $544.

Founded in 2005, the Toronto-based airline now flies to 73 destinations in Canada, the Caribbean, Mexico, South America and the United States.
With the addition of the Miami route, Sunwing now operates flights from Ottawa to 11 destinations in Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Mexico and the U.S.
The additional flights are more good news for Ottawa’s airport, which is enjoying a banner year.

Overall, passenger volumes at the airport were up 4.4 per cent in the first half of 2018, with officials anticipating a record-breaking year for air travel through the region.
