Ottawa housing starts fall 25%

Ottawa housing starts in July fell 25 per cent year-over-year, according to numbers released by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp.

There were 287 starts in July compared with 385 the year before, with most of the growth coming from Kanata and south of Ottawa.

In contrast to past months, the multi-family apartment segment – which has been spurring overall growth recently – experienced a decline of 4.3 per cent.

Single-detached starts fell just over 17 per cent to 128, while multi-family homes fell 30 per cent to 230.
